ISO 42001 / Lead Implementer

ISO 42001 Lead Implementer Exam Prep

Implementing a standard nobody has implemented twice.

ISO 42001 is two years old. Reference implementations are thin on the ground. You are going to be the senior person in the room and the exam wants to know if you can prove it. Mindset Prep drills the lifecycle-phase logic and Annex A nuance that catches even experienced implementers - whichever certification body you are sitting with.

  • Aligned with PECB, CQI/IRCA, Exemplar Global, TRECCERT
  • PECB format 80 multiple-choice questions, 3 hours, open book, 70% pass
  • Other providers Format varies; content is identical
  • Re-sit cost Up to $1,000 AUD - you do not want it
  • Source clauses ISO/IEC 42001:2023, ISO/IEC 23894, ISO/IEC 27005

How we close the gap

Active retrieval, not passive review.

Re-reading the standard is not what failed you last time. Active recall under realistic conditions is what the exam tests, and what actually fixes the trap patterns.

Adaptive

The weakest clause comes back first

Adaptive spaced repetition schedules every question against your weakest control. Mastered clauses fade out so you stop wasting evenings on what you already know cold.

Mock exam

Exam mechanics, no surprise on the day

Mocks with question palette, mark-for-review, and weighted scoring that mirror what every major Lead Auditor / Implementer exam puts in front of you. Identity stays Mindset, mechanics mirror the real thing so exam day feels familiar.

Coach

Plain English, cited clause, no hallucination

Every option - correct AND wrong - comes with a plain-language rationale and the exact ISO clause it draws on. You learn the bad answer too: which trap pattern examiners used to bait it, and how to spot the same swap next time. Clause cited inline so you can verify against the standard.

The three traps that will catch you

You will see these on exam day. Probably twice.

Every wrong answer in our bank is tagged with the exact trap pattern examiners reuse. You see each one dozens of times, in dozens of variations, until they stop sliding past you.

T-01

Annex A treated as mandatory

Annex A is a reference list - controls are selected against risk. Wrong options imply they are all mandatory and a skim-reader picks the wrong answer. Every Lead Implementer exam uses this trap routinely.

T-02

Software lifecycle vs AIMS lifecycle

You think in sprints and deployments. The standard thinks in design / development / deployment / operation as AIMS phases. The exam tests whether you can place an activity in the standard's lifecycle, not your team's.

T-03

AI ethics policy vs AI management policy

Different scope, different signatories, different review cadence. Easy to merge them in your head; the exam tests whether you can articulate the difference cold.

The questions candidates actually ask

Honest answers.

Is anyone actually pursuing 42001 certification yet?

Yes - major SaaS, financial services and healthcare providers as of 2025-2026. Australian regulators are increasingly referencing it. Lead Implementer demand is outpacing supply.

Which certification body does Mindset Prep cover?

All of the bodies currently certifying 42001 Lead Implementers. The four personnel certifiers are PECB, CQI/IRCA, Exemplar Global and TRECCERT, and Mindset Prep works for candidates sitting any of them. BSI, TUV and DNV are training and audit firms whose 42001 Lead Implementer courses are typically CQI/IRCA-accredited. The practice is grounded in ISO/IEC 42001:2023 itself, which is identical regardless of provider - only the exam format differs.

Do I need an ML or AI engineering background?

No. 42001 is a management-system standard. You need governance, risk and lifecycle expertise - not model architecture. Mindset Prep frames every question for a manager, not a researcher.

How does this compare to NIST AI RMF training?

NIST AI RMF is a voluntary framework, not a certifiable standard. ISO 42001 leads to a recognised personnel credential via PECB, CQI/IRCA, Exemplar Global or TRECCERT. Mindset Prep covers the standard knowledge for whichever body you sit with.

I implemented 27001 before. How much carries over?

Roughly 40% of the management-system structure. Mindset Prep flags 27001-overlap questions so you spend your study time on the genuinely-new AI-specific clauses.

Need the course + exam too?
